The eduroam-US Advisory Committee (“eAC”) is intended to be an advisory body to the Internet2 Community Architecture Committee for Trust and Identity (CACTI). Its role is to help formulate strategies and practices for US and global research and education roaming networks, report any findings, and make recommendations to CACTI and Internet2, the eduroam-US operator

The eduroam network allows visitors to participating institutions to connect to the Internet without having to obtain login credentials specific to that institution. This session will provide an overview of the roaming operators and governance bodies that make up the global eduroam community, and explain how UETN members fit within that community. Research Support Once an institution has made the decision to join eduroam, the next step is to review the requirements and technical process. In many cases, the necessary infrastructure to begin the process is already in place and can sometimes be completed in as little as a few hours.
The eduroam initiative started in 2003 with 6 countries. The technology behind eduroam is based on the IEEE 802.1X standard and a hierarchy of RADIUS proxy servers. The task force created a test bed to demonstrate the feasibility of combining a RADIUS-based infrastructure with 802.1X standard technology to provide roaming network access across research and education networks.
